► (1813-83) Compositor y poeta alemán. Durante su juventud tuvo lugar el crecimiento y formación de la Alemania moderna; el arte de Wagner creció a la par de esta elaboración y llegó a encarnar la vitalidad y el ímpetu del espíritu alemán. Las etapas de esta sustanciación están representadas por Rienzi (1842), El buque fantasma (1843), Tannhäuser (1845) y Lohengrin (1850). Tristán e Isolda (1859) presenta la originalidad del compositor en toda su pujanza. Durante este tiempo elaboró sus obras más genuinas: Los maestros cantores de Nuremberg (1868), la tetralogía El anillo de los Nibelungos (1867) y Parsifal (1882).
